A little history

Zurich's Rathaus (town hall) was built in 1694–98 right in the river, on the site of the medieval council house, so it belonged to neither bank. The cantonal and city parliaments still meet inside.

Next to it the Rathausbrücke, for centuries the vegetable market on the water, was the old town's main crossing. Along the Limmatquai, blue-and-white trams run past a row of old-town houses with arcades.

The booklet opens with the full story: key dates, what to look for and where to find it.
