St. Peter is Zurich's oldest parish church: a small church stood here in the 8th or 9th century, near the Roman settlement on the Lindenhof.

Its late-Romanesque tower (c. 1230, raised c. 1450) carries the largest church clock faces in Europe: each dial is 8.64 m across, and the minute hand alone is almost 6 m long.
The bright baroque nave was rebuilt in just 17 months and consecrated in 1706, the first church built in Zurich after the Reformation.
